Hampshire Record Office

The County Record Office for Hampshire. A must if you have Hampshire ancestors.

Hampshire Record Centre has records relating to Hampshire and Hampshire Families including Parish Registers, copies of censuses, various indexes and monumental inscriptions except where the primary connection is with the cities of Southampton or Portsmouth.

Southampton City Archives

Opening times: Tuesday - Friday 9.30am - 6.30pm.

Administered by the City of Southampton and as its name suggests holds records relating to Southampton.

Holdings:

• Church Records including some Methodist, Congregational and Baptist Records. Note all the pre1837 Parish Registers have been transcribed and indexed. Those after 1837 are being indexed.
• Administration records including town, court, poor relief and militia records
• Maps and other miscellaneous records..

No separate web site but has a section on the City of Southampton web site.

Portsmouth City Museums & Records Service

Opening times: Not known

Administered by the Portsmouth City Council and as its name suggests holds records relating to Portsmouth. Has copies of Parish Registers relating to Portsmouth plus other local sundry documents.

No separate web site but has a section on the Portsmouth City Council web site.

Isle of Wight Record Office

Opening times: Monday 9.20am - 5.00pm; Tuesday - Friday 9.00am - 5.00pm

Holds records relating to the Isle of Wight including Parish Registers, copies of which are not held at Hampshire Record Office, plus other documents relating to the Isle of Wight. Parish Records prior to 1837 have been card indexed.
